ABOUT LEAH HORNBERGER

Leah Hornberger is currently a second year student at Lethbridge College enrolled in the Fashion Design and Sustainable Production program in Alberta, Canada. Leah was born and raised in the small town of Raymond, Alberta, Canada. She is heavily influenced by her seamstress and costume designer mother, and learned to sew on her grandmother's sewing machine by the time she was 7 years old.

During her first year in the Fashion Design and Sustainable production program, Leah participated in constructing a garment made of approximately a thousand condoms for a HIV awareness fundraiser in Lethbridge, and excelled in her classes to develop valuable skills that may be used in the fashion industry.

During second year in the fashion program, she also developed her own women's loungewear line dyed using assorted flowers, fruits, and vegetables as a environmentally sustainable alternative to toxic synthetic dyes. Leah continues to take an interest in sustainability within the fashion industry with her classmates while working on an applied research project which strives to educate consumers on the harmful effects of fast fashion, and make a difference within the industry to slow down the industry to create more sustainable garments.
